The
contemporary Community Drum Circle
has it's roots in West African Djimbe music. Most participants are playing
Djimbe, Djun Djun, or Bell. These instruments make up the core of the
ensemble. As wild as the music may sound to our ears, there is a sophisticated
order holding it all together. The feeling one gets when this is working
is the reason the circle is so popular and attractive to our souls.
This
book/CD takes the beginner and gently leads through the process of rhythm
development and repertoire. Using the method called Ta
Ke Di Mi one develops a strong sense of language and precise
execution and then applies the lessons to building repertoire.
The
CD follows the lessons and repertoire of the book. It is divided between
Vocal demonstration (using TKDM), Drum modelling, and Traditional ensemble
performance.
